Our Library needs Friends

Our Library needs Friends now, more than ever Our Library is a vital part of our community. It serves a crucial purpose within the community that provides access to information that allows people of all ages to be able to: read books, use the computers, listen to stories, enjoy programs, attend events and much more. The Library has also embraced the electronic age by having an online presence that enables you to download books, magazines, take educational courses and so much more. The biggest advantage to the community is that it is all free. As Friends, we believe in the importance of the Library as the social and intellectual HUB of our community and we support its mission and policies. We serve as the ‘connecting link’ between the Library and the community … Read entire article »

School Supplies Drive: Jan 18 – Jan 23

Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities. The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President’s national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems. Literacy is one of the most important skills needed to succeed in our society. Regardless of where you live, access to books or the materials needed to learn is a challenge for some children. Providing access to books and school supplies for under served children helps to reduce a major barrier to learning. To honor Dr. King’s legacy, the Friends of PFPL will sponsor a multi-day school supplies drive. Please bring your donation … Read entire article »

Books and Volunteers Needed for 2014 Spring Book Sale

Book donations for the Friends of the Library’s annual Spring Book Sale are needed.  New or gently used books, DVDs, CDs, videotapes and audiobooks are greatly appreciated.  Some of your donations end up on the Library’s shelves, most are sold at the Friends of the Library book sales.   All proceeds from the book sale support educational and cultural enrichment programs at our library and the National Center for Families Learning,  through our literacy partner, Better World Books.  Your support is always valued, and in these hard times your support means even more.  The Library cannot accept encyclopedias, outdated reference books, or books in poor condition. Meeting Friends at Ole Towne Festival

Thank you everyone, for visiting our table at Phillipsburg Ole Towne Festival this weekend.   We enjoyed catching up with good friends and meeting new ones.  We were especially happy to see Mrs. Mary Polgardy.  Mary has had a Phillipsburg Library card since 1936 and visits the library every week, “I don’t know what I would do without the library,” she said.  Mary enjoys reading historical novels, suspense and even some science fiction!  All that reading helped Mary win a prize during last year’s Adult Summer Reading Program. The love of reading spans many generations in Mary’s family, “Monday nights were library nights with the grand kids when they were little,” she said, “and now my grandchildren bring their kids to the library’s Children’s Programs.”  It is never too soon to start your child on … Read entire article »
