Editorial – September 2018

Are you aware that our library has served Phillipsburg since 1923? That means that for 95 years our library has served thousands of children, teens, adults and senior residents in whatever capacity that has been needed, much to our great benefit.

Of those 95 years, beginning in 1990 the library entered into a federation agreement, with the County of Warren, to serve residents in all of Warren County and afford them the equal opportunity to benefit from services offered. After 28 years, the County chose to terminate the agreement and eliminate the funding to serve township residents. That termination means that the library is serving only Phillipsburg unless a resident from another township purchases a membership. Therefore the diversity of multiple county patronage has come to an end.

This elimination of funding will present a challenge to our library. It also presents an opportunity, for Friends to pick up the gauntlet of this challenge and make a difference. Our Friends group must be able and willing to use our collective powers to engage in fundraising and other programs that will assist our library in continuing to offer services, programs and updated equipment to neighborhood residents.

Friends is made up of more than one person or a board of seven people. The Board is the governing body. It is the members that should be the driving force that make the decisions, plan and help with activities, events and fundraisers. We have a talented, resourceful community! Just think of how much we can support the library with every members help.

Be a part of the solution. Be a part of the Board, join a committee. Help us MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
