Editorial – September 2018

Editorial Are you aware that our library has served Phillipsburg since 1923? That means that for 95 years our library has served thousands of children, teens, adults and senior residents in whatever capacity that has been needed, much to our great benefit. Of those 95 years, beginning in 1990 the library entered into a federation agreement, with the County of Warren, to serve residents in all of Warren County and afford them the equal opportunity to benefit from services offered. After 28 years, the County chose to terminate the agreement and eliminate the funding to serve township residents. That termination means that the library is serving only Phillipsburg unless a resident from another township purchases a membership. Therefore the diversity of multiple county patronage has come to an end.  This elimination of funding … Read entire article »

INFORMATION ALERT – Library Budget & Roof Replacement – Update as of 3/8

Update as of 3/8: At the 3/8 Budget Hearing, there still seems to be a bit of uncertainty to the exact amount of the allocated funds for the library. The council spoke of $725,000 when $745,000 was submitted. They then indicated, that they were uncertain if the roof monies were coming from a grant or were actually a loan that would need to be paid back. The roof issue still has to be clarified. On 3/1, Mayor Ellis attended the library board meeting and cleared up the misunderstandings. The roof will be replaced. The monies are coming from a grant. The grant does not allow upgrades so the replacement will be a flat roof in lieu of slanted. This is good news as the budget will not be reduced by the cost of … Read entire article »

2018 Message from the President

Message from the President Hello everyone. Can you believe that 2017 is over? It seemed like the year just started. It went really fast. Maybe that was because the Friends group made great strides and we were fairly active throughout the year. I won’t reiterate our 2017 accomplishments again as I have bragged several times already. What I will do, is offer up the challenge to Friends members to come together as a group, as a team, to assist with and be part of Friends moving forward with ideas and plans to see what we can accomplish in 2018. Together, as a team, we could make great strides. I have no doubt that  we have an eclectic group of talented members who would be able to take up this challenge and lend … Read entire article »
